Materials List

Many students appear with lower quality art products that are unsuitable for producing pleasing results.  It is always best to avoid cheap materials at all cost. Cheap colours and thin, substandard paper can put students off painting more than anything else. This is definitely false economy. It is also advisable  to avoid sets of paints that have a huge range of colours. Students are much better off equipped with a 'limited palette'.  It is easier to produce successful pieces that 'work' and harmonise. It is cheaper, simpler and lots more rewarding.  The overall price of this basic set may appear high. However, please consider the cost of computer software/hardware, sporting equipment or musical instruments in relation.

Please note that not purchasing these materials will in no way affect the potential grade achievable. However, if these materials are used on a regular basis in class and at home, the course will be an much more rewarding experience. Those on free school meals will have the materials provided for them unless the school is otherwise informed.

Below, I have provided clickable links for all materials to Ken Bromley Art Supplies.  The Graphics Department has no affiliation with the company, but they have been used by staff and can be relied upon for value and speed of shipping.  There is a -5% voucher code (TAS75) available for Thomas Adams customers who spend £75 or more.   If you are unsure about ordering online, both sites feature a phone number for sales.  Failing that you may wish print off this list and take it to a local art store or Hobbycraft.  The total is approx £75.

Good brushes will last a very long time if they are properly looked after.  I would recommend the following as a good starters set...

Paper

Buy 150gsm (or higher) paper.
Arches Watercolour Paper Block is the best money can buy.
There are 3 types of [paper you can buy:

 Hot - smooth.  Recommended

The above is fine for many of the home, independent and course works. For a more extensive set up the remainder of the materials are recommended.
